With their fifth album "One Second" from 1987, YELLO continue the success of their predecessor. The work charted at number 11 in Germany, at number 6 in Austria and at number 4 in Switzerland, where it received a gold award. The singles "Call It Love", "Goldrush" and the Shirley Bassey feature "The Rhythm Divine" are extracted from the long player, which has a total of ten songs, with which YELLO is celebrating their most prominent collaboration to date. Like their previous releases, the sound of "One Second" is also characterized by new sound architectures, which the self-proclaimed "hunter and collector" Boris Blank musically outlines in his studio in Zurich under the motto "No repetitions". "Boris opens a new, surprising piñata with every piece", Dieter Meier describes the stylistic development of the duo. " It's only when he's finished with his backing tracks that the lyricist or singer - in this case me - springs into action and gets inspired by the sounds. On the one hand, the surge in popularity was a nice thing, although neither Boris nor myself ever aimed for commercial success. The focus has always been that we both enjoy what we do" , as YELLO demonstrate with tracks like "Moon On Ice", "Santiago" or "Si Senor The Hairy Grill".
“The sessions with Shirley Bassey were very brief; one hour at most, it only needed three takes,” adds Boris Blank.
